Anthropic opens Mythos-class cyber tools to regional hospitals

Regional hospitals and other critical infrastructure operators can now apply for tiered access to Anthropic’s most capable cyber models, including Claude Mythos 5.1, through an expanded cybersecurity initiative.

The existing Cyber Verification Program absorbs Project Glasswing, which had limited Mythos to a select group of organizations securing critical software, the AI developer said Oct. 6. It now has three access tiers, each with its own verification requirements and security controls. All three include Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Claude Mythos 5.1 and future models.

Defense Access covers security operations, incident response, malware reverse-engineering and vulnerability validation. Anthropic named regional hospitals among the critical infrastructure operators of any size that qualify. The company said it aims to respond to applications within a few days.

Red Team Access adds authorized penetration testing and red-teaming. Anthropic expects these reviews to take a few weeks. Users in this tier still face real-time blocks on actions such as deploying ransomware.

Specialized Access, the least restricted tier, is reserved for organizations authorized to test systems such as power grids, flight systems and interbank networks. Anthropic reviews each applicant alongside the U.S. government. Existing Glasswing members, which include Epic, move into this tier without reapproval for current models.

Anthropic said Glasswing partners found at least 129,000 verified software vulnerabilities from April to July, and its own open-source scanning found 5,500 more. More than 33,000 of those flaws have been rated critical or high severity, a figure the company said is likely an undercount.

Enrolled organizations must allow data retention so Anthropic can monitor for misuse. Once Anthropic’s Enterprise Frontier Safeguards launch later this fall, eligible organizations will be able to store that data in cloud infrastructure they control.

The move extends Mythos-class tools well beyond Glasswing’s roughly 200 members, a group health system CIOs had pushed to join.
