Anthropic has committed $200 million in grant funding and other uses of its Claude chatbot to the Gates Foundation, with a focus on healthcare.
The AI startup will dedicate resources to creating new drugs and vaccines and helping governments better employ health data, concentrating on low- and middle-income countries.
“As part of this work on healthcare intelligence, we’ll create connectors (which grant Claude direct access to other platforms and tools), benchmarks, and evaluation frameworks that allow researchers, developers, and governments to better understand how AI systems perform on healthcare-related tasks,” Anthropic stated May 14. “Together, we will explore how AI can better support frontline health workers and patients in navigating diagnosis, treatment, and medical decision-making.”
Anthropic competitor OpenAI has also pledged to improve global health through its $25 billion nonprofit arm.
