3 technologies that could be useful to payers as pandemic wanes

Payers anticipate a surge in demand for medical services as a result of patients delaying care throughout the pandemic. The American Journal of Managed Care suggested July 5 three technologies that could assist insurers in the difficult days ahead.

1. Natural Language Processing: Up to 80 percent of healthcare data is unstructured, making it difficult for payers to extract the most relevant information from claims, the AJMC stated. NLP technology can streamline the process by identifying key information that can determine gaps in care with more accuracy and efficiency

2. Next-generation analytics engines: Obtaining and applying clinical data to improve care outcomes has become increasingly important for payers.  

3. Data normalization: As insurers continue to work and exchange data with providers, they should leverage technology, advanced terminology tools and algorithms powered by machine learning to improve patient care, according to the article.
