AHIMA releases Patient Engagement Toolkit for health IT professionals

To help health information management professionals play an active role in patient engagement, the American Health Information Management Association released a "Consumer Engagement Toolkit."

"Consumer engagement is no longer a small subsection of a [health information management] practitioner's job description; it is an integral part of the overall healthcare organization's consumer engagement strategy," according to the toolkit. "That's because responsibilities that traditionally fell to clinical care staff may now fall into the realm of HIM. Now, outcomes can ride on the ability to meaningfully engage consumers."

AHIMA developed the toolkit to serve as a training and educational resource for HIM professionals, students, educators, healthcare providers and the general public.
