One initiative, the Alliance to Reduce Health IT Disparities, will be led by a partnership of AHIMA, the Department of Health and Human Services and North Shore Medical Labs. Through the program, AHIMA will provide free health IT training to providers and staff in underserved communities and North Shore will donate electronic health record software and services. This demonstration program will begin in Alabama, Mississippi and North Carolina.
Another initiative, HIM Jobs for America, will be led by AHIMA and aims to improve the healthcare of underserved Americans in addition to supporting employment. The program also includes a legislative platform to address HIM job creation. Some items in the legislative platform include employer tax credits for providing HIM training and an expansion of education for HIM professionals.
