90% of Ohio Hospitals Participate in an HIE

In 2013, 40 percent of hospitals nationally had exchanged clinical information electronically with another hospital, according to recent data from the ONC.

In Ohio, 90 percent of the state's hospitals are able to easily exchange data with each other as participants in a health information exchange, according to a report from The Center for Health Affairs.

Currently, 141 of the state's hospitals and about 1,000 physicians are connected to CliniSync, the statewide HIE. The providers connected to CliniSync represent approximately 87 percent of patients in the state, according to the report.

"In many ways Ohio's HIE is a micro version of what the country hopes to achieve; wherein health records follow the patient regardless of their geographic location," according to the report. "As more vendors and providers form agreements as those in Ohio have, the momentum to develop a national HIE becomes even greater."
