88% of health system leaders plan to up tech spending in '23

Even though hospitals and health systems are facing financial headwinds, 88 percent of health system leaders say they will increase third-party tech spending in 2023 and 2024.

Tech advisory firm IDC and Redox posted a survey July 18 analyzing insights of 205 IT executives at U.S.-based healthcare organizations and found the following:

  • Digital transformation was reported as IT executives' most important goal of the year, and third-party tech spending was tied to achieving that goal.

  • Executives plan to use digital technologies to "cut waste out of their operations," according to the survey.

  • Forty-three percent of respondents said vendors that don't have knowledge in clinical workflows won't be considered.
  • Forty-seven percent of executives said automation will be a key benefit when deploying new technology.

  • Forty-two percent said new technology will help lower costs.
