75% of Healthcare Providers Report Hiring New IT Talent

Most healthcare providers are hiring new talent to support information technology in their organizations, according to "Solving the Talent Equation for Health IT," a report by PwC's Health Research Institute.

The report is based on an in-depth survey of human capital and talent strategies that the institute conducted in late 2012 as well as interviews with 20 IT and human resource professionals.

Sixty-seven percent of providers reported experiencing IT staff shortages. When asked to weigh in on their staffing challenges, providers reported the following, according to the report:

•    Fifty-nine percent say staffing challenges will negatively impact their chances to receive meaningful use incentives
•    Seventy-five percent are hiring new talent to support IT
