7 findings from AHIMA's information governance survey

About two-thirds of healthcare organizations believe an information governance strategy is needed to optimize data usage. However, just 43 percent of these organizations have implemented an information governance strategy, according to a new survey from the American Healthcare Information Management Association.

Of those with an information governance strategy, 25 percent report already seeing substantial benefits, 45 percent report seeing some benefits and 30 percent report seeing no benefits to date.

However, a vast majority (84 percent) of organizations in the survey report their organization has seen significant improvement in the past three years in moving toward an information governance strategy. Additionally, 91 percent anticipate seeing improvement in the next three years.
