6 Tech Tools Healthcare Organizations Use to Engage Patients

More than half (62 percent) of respondents to HIMSS’ Mobile Technology Survey reported employing technology to engage patients.

The most commonly used tools for this engagement include:

App-enabled patient portals — 56 percent
Telehealth services — 52 percent
Providing remote monitoring devices — 36 percent
Prescribing apps — 23 percent
Discharge kit with mobile technology — 13 percent
Other apps — 6 percent

About two-thirds (67 percent) said their organization plans to expand upon these offerings in the future.

Survey results were based on responses from 170 health IT executives from a variety of healthcare organizations. About two-thirds of respondents work for hospitals or integrated delivery systems, and 14 percent for ambulatory facilities or physician practices.
