6 recent data breaches

The following data breaches were reported within the past two weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. Birmingham, Ala.-based American Family Care, a network of urgent care clinics, is notifying patients of a data breach after two laptops containing protected health information were stolen from an employee's vehicle earlier this summer.

2. Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., reported a data breach after a folder containing protected health information was found in a public restroom in the lobby of one of the buildings.

3. Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha fired two employees after discovering they inappropriately accessed the medical records of a patient who was being treated for Ebola.

4. A McKesson subsidiary providing billing services suffered a breach that exposed more than 10,000 patients' information on Internet search engines.

5. The Cook County Health & Hospitals System posted a notice regarding a potential data breach after an individual working on behalf of CCHHS sent an email to an authorized individual at a non-Cook County healthcare organization that contained unencrypted protected health information.

6. Aventura (Fla.) Hospital and Medical Center reported a data breach after an employee from one of the hospital's business associates may have improperly accessed the personal information of 82,601 patients.
