5 Steps Vendors, Providers Should Take for Successful EHR Implementation

In "5 Steps to Ensure Better EHR-Provider Outcomes," Marion Jenkins, executive vice president at 3T Systems, lays out steps that both providers and software vendors should take to ensure the effective implementation of electronic health records.

According to Mr. Jenkins, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act/Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act of 2009 to further the adoption of healthcare IT has been good for the industry, but there is still work to be done. Vendors and providers need to engage with each other as partners to ensure the success of their EHR implementation.

Here are five steps that providers and vendors should take together to improve and advance EHR implementation, according to Mr. Jenkins:

1. Invest in training.
2. Redesign your work flow.
3. Set proper expectations.
4. Be committed to success.
5. Take the long-term view.
