5 Statistics on Hospitals Incorporating Patient Engagement EHR Functionalities

From 2012 to 2013, hospitals reported overall increases in patient engagement electronic health record functionalities, according to a report from the ONC.

Here are five statistics on the increasing patient engagement functionalities.

1. In 2013, 92.4 percent of providers reported having an EHR that gives patients an electronic copy of discharge instructions, up from 82.7 percent in 2012.

2. Approximately 90 percent of providers' EHRs identify and provide patient-specific educational resources, up from 82.8 percent in 2012.

3. Nearly 40 percent of providers said their patients can view their records online, while only 24 percent said the same thing in 2012.

4. In 2013, 27.8 percent of patients were able to download information from their EHRs, compared to 14.3 percent in 2012.

5. Approximately one-third of patients, 32.8 percent, can request an amendment or change or update their records, a slight increase from the 30.9 percent in 2012.
