5 states with the most, least HIMSS Stage 7 hospitals

In 2005, HIMSS launched its EMR Adoption Model to track hospitals' implementation and usage of electronic medical records.

The eight-stage scale runs from zero to seven, with stage 7 healthcare organizations at "the pinnacle of an environment where paper charts are no longer used to deliver patient care."

Here are the five states with the highest number of HIMSS Stage 7 hospitals:

1. California (45 hospitals)

2. Texas (20 hospitals)

3. Colorado (17 hospitals)

4. Ohio (16 hospitals)

5. Arizona (12 hospitals)

The following 10 states all have just one hospital that has reached HIMSS Stage 7.

1. Delaware

2. Georgia

3. Iowa

4. Kentucky

5. Louisiana

6. Massachusetts

7. North Carolina

8. Nebraska

9. Nevada

10. West Virginia
