5 most, least innovative states

California, the home of Silicon Valley, isn’t the only state that is considered innovative.

WalletHub released its 2019 list of the most and least innovative states. The company compared the 50 states and District of Columbia across 24 indicators of innovation, such as research and development spending per capita.

Five most innovative states:

  1. Massachusetts
  2. Washington
  3. District of Columbia
  4. Maryland
  5. Colorado

Five least innovative states:

  1. Mississippi
  2. Louisiana
  3. West Virginia
  4. Iowa
  5. Tennessee
