5 HIT Features Most Important for ACO, PCMH Quality Outcomes

Ninety-five percent of surveyed organizations participating in accountable care organizations and patient-centered medical homes, as well as organizations considering the models, believe integrated electronic health records are the most important health information technology feature for creating quality patient outcomes in ACOs and PCMHs, according to a recent survey by eClinicalWorks.

The following are other features many respondents rated as important for ACOs and PCMHs to create quality outcomes:

•   Physician alerts for high-risk patients within the EHR: 93 percent
•   Care-planning and coordination tools: 93 percent
•   Risk-assessment tools and predictive analytics: 89 percent
•   Patient engagement tools, such as online portals, smartphone apps, patient notifications and patient satisfaction surveys: 86 percent

The survey included responses from 2,104 healthcare professionals, including 682 physicians.
