4 in 5 healthcare execs admit to compromised company data, survey finds

Based on a survey of 223 healthcare executives at companies with at least $500 million in revenue, four out of five healthcare organizations' data has been compromised by cyberattacks.

The prevalence of attacks is attributed to the ease of distribution of electronic personal health information, the adoption of EMRs and the evolving threat landscape.

Additional findings include that 89 percent of payers and 85 percent of providers, hospitals and clinics had discussed cybersecurity at the board level. However, only 53 percent of providers and 66 percent of payers admitted to feeling prepared to defend themselves against attacks.
