3M closes $1B acquisition of M*Modal’s tech business

3M completed its acquisition of M*Modal’s technology business for $1 billion, the company announced Feb. 1.

With the acquisition, 3M plans to expand its health information systems business by adding M*Modal’s cloud-based, artificial intelligence solutions, which help physicians verbally capture and improve notes during patient visits.

Currently, 3M’s health business works with more than 8,000 healthcare organizations around the world. Its solutions add risk assessment capabilities to clinical documentation systems to assist clinicians in analyzing patient data.
