Here are 10 more statistics on federal agencies and professionals’ cloud computing.
1. Forty-four percent of federal agencies have “mature” data governance practices in the cloud.
2. More than half of federal agencies — 56 percent — reported currently being in the process of implementing a more formal data governance program for their cloud services.
3. More than half of federal IT professionals — 55 percent — said cloud computing makes data management easier and allows for easier configuration management, stronger virtual staff support, faster access to data and enhanced system monitoring.
4. Sixty-one percent of federal IT professionals indicated their agencies do not have documented metadata.
5. A little more than half of respondents — 52 percent — said their agencies do not have well-understood data integration.
6. Half of survey respondents indicated their agencies do not have defined or identified data owners.
7. Forty-nine percent of respondents said their agencies do not have known systems of record.
8. Fifty-four percent of respondents said security was their top concern regarding cloud computing.
9. Nearly 20 percent said the security offered by their cloud vendor is completely sufficient.
10. To mediate security concerns, the majority of agencies — 89 percent — implemented safeguards after discussions with their vendors, such as keeping security functions on-site, requiring certification of implemented security measures and requiring he data to be housed in a dedicated server.
The report surveyed 153 federal IT professionals who introduced cloud computing as part of their IT strategy.
