GoodRX calculated fill percentages for weight loss medications using a nationally representative sample of prescription fills. Data covered claims filed between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31. The organization also calculated the out-of-pocket cost for a 30-day supply of each medication based on the claims data. Learn more about the methodology here.

Medication fills for Zepbound have increased by more than 300% since the start of the year. The average out-of-pocket cost for patients was $230 per fill — the highest of any medication included in the analysis.

Wegovy fills also increased by more than 100% this year, with the average cost sitting at about $75.

In general, costs were higher for patients taking GLP-1s for weight loss versus diabetes. Patients filling Zepbound prescriptions for weight loss paid on average $141 more than those taking Mounjaro for diabetes, even though both medications have the same active ingredient.

In addition, 18% of patients with commercial insurance had no coverage for at least one brand-name weight loss medication.
