Novo Nordisk said oral Wegovy outperformed Eli Lilly’s orforglipron on weight loss and treatment tolerability in new analyses.
The company shared findings from its Orion indirect treatment comparison and Optic patient preference studies, which compared 25-milligram oral semaglutide with 36-milligram orforglipron. Novo said oral Wegovy demonstrated greater average weight loss than orforglipron and lower odds of treatment discontinuation because of gastrointestinal side effects, according to a May 13 news release.
Orforglipron was associated with about 14 times higher odds of stopping treatment because of GI side effects, according to the release. The drugmaker also said 84% of respondents in the Optic patient preference study favored a treatment profile similar to oral Wegovy over one resembling orforglipron.
Novo also shared additional phase 3 Oasis 4 trial data showing 28.8% of adults taking oral Wegovy achieved at least 10% weight loss by week 16 and an average weight loss of 21.6% by week 64.
A separate Oasis 4 analysis found 77.3% of adults with poor physical function who took oral Wegovy also achieved clinically meaningful improvements in mobility scores, compared with 42.9% in the placebo group.
