Why one Oregon couple set out to pay hospital bills for parents of stillborn babies

Rebecca Hauskin went through the physically and emotionally traumatizing experience of delivering a stillborn daughter in 2010 and was reminded of the experience every month after when she worked to pay off her $1,000 hospital bill. Now, she and her husband Randy have started a foundation to help other couples pay their own bills following similar scenarios, according to ABC News.

The Hauskins, who live in Happy Valley, Ore., founded Hayden's Helping Hand in honor of their stillborn daughter and named the foundation after her. So far, the foundation has paid up to $1,000 in hospital bills for 44 families who have delivered stillborn children in Oregon and Washington.

"The reality is, we can't change stillbirth, but we can be a resource for these families," Rebecca Hauskin told ABC News.

Because most families they serve want to keep their baby's memory alive, the foundation names each child on its social media pages and at its annual fundraiser.
