HCA Healthcare CFO Mike Marks said the for-profit health system is deep into its digital transformation efforts, including in the revenue cycle.
“Our focus in terms of AI and automation in our revenue cycle right now is really specifically focused on working to respond to the growing denial and underpayment activities from the payer,” Mr. Marks said on the Nashville, Tenn.-based system’s Oct. 24 earnings call.
He said the system is also piloting and rolling out ambient AI documentation tools “designed to help our physicians be more complete, more accurate and more timely in completing their clinical documentation.”
HCA reported a net income of $1.6 billion (8.6% margin) in the third quarter, a significant improvement over the $1.3 billion net income (7.3% margin) posted in the third quarter of 2024. HCA said the strong financial results were driven by higher revenue, improved earnings and growth in same-facility admissions.
