Arkansas, Colorado, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Minnesota received level one grants, which span one year, whereas the District of Columbia received a level two grant. The level two award is multiyear and designed to help states further their HIE development.
States may apply for grants through the end of 2014 and use funds through the initial start-up year. So far, 34 states and the District of Columbia have received grants to begin building their HIEs.
