Weirton Medical Center Records $10.2M Turnaround in 2013

In the most recent fiscal year ended June 30, Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center posted a profit of $871,000, a $10.2 million turnaround from the $9.3 million loss in 2012, according to a Weirton Daily Times report.

Kelli McCoy, director of communications at the 238-bed independent hospital, told the Daily Times the one-year swing at the facility was "unprecedented."

Officials attributed the positive turnaround to positive physician recruitment efforts that added dozens to the medical staff, the addition of new procedures and specialties and growth from new technologies such as 3D mammography.
