Under the House Bill 1531, licensed collectors must wait at least 180 days after a bill is assigned to a collection agency before providing information to credit bureaus.
Collectors also are prohibited from attempting to collect medical debt that involves hospital debt while an application for charity care or an appeal from a final determination of charity care status is pending, according to the article.
