Utah State Senator Plans to Introduce Bill to Make Hospital Finances More Transparent

Utah State Senator Sen. Chris Buttars (R-West Jordan) plans to introduce that would make the finances of non-profit Intermountain Healthcare more transparent, according to a report by the Salt Lake Tribune.

The bill would force Intermountain, the largest health system in the state, to make public its executive compensation and show how much tax revenue the health system would generate if it lost its tax-exempt status, according to the report.

Supporters of the bill said that Intermountain uses its tax-exempt status to “to smother competition from other health care providers,” according to the report.

Intermountain did not comment in the report.
