Medicare DSH Hospitals Can Now View Medicare Enrollment Information for Inpatients

Hospitals receiving Medicare disproportionate share payments can now view Medicare enrollment information for their facility’s inpatients through a limited view of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act eligibility transaction system, according to a report by the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

The HETS 270/271 DSH will allow hospitals to verify Medicare enrollment, including whether a patient is entitled to Part A benefits, enrolled in a managed care plan or has Medicare as secondary insurance, according to the report.
