Upstate University Hospital got rid of nearly 140 positions last year through attrition and was a little more dependent on contracted labor, Stuart Wright, the hospital’s chief financial officer, told WRVO.
Additionally, patient billing collections increased by $117 million, which, along with the savings, helped make it possible for the hospital to post a $1.1 million profit for the year, according to the report.
Upstate University Hospital lost about $35 million in the two years prior to that, according to the report.
Although the hospital was able to post a profit, expenses such as payroll are on the rise and there is less state aid available, according to the report.
