The health system originally set a goal of $1 billion in 2010 as part of its “Discover the Difference” campaign. After community support exceeded expectations, UH lifted the goal to $1.5 billion in 2012.

The campaign comprised more than 83,500 donors who made contributions ranging from $1 to $72.6 million for a total of $1,511,586,803. Sherri Bishop, UH’s chief development officer, told cleveland.com the achievement is “unprecedented.”

The funding allowed UH — which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year — to build Beachwood, Ohio-based UH Ahuja Medical Center and a free-standing cancer hospital in Cleveland called UH Seidman Cancer Center, among several other projects.
