UnityPoint Health demonstrated it followed the HFMA’s 100 best practices concerning all aspects of financial interactions that occur in inpatient and outpatient care settings. This includes having established processes to help patients understand their insurance benefits and out-of-pocket responsibility.

HFMA has recognized less than 200 hospitals, health systems and physician practices as best adopters since the award’s inception in 2013.

“In a time when patients are concerned about costs associated with paying more out-of-pocket for their healthcare, the financial conversations we have with patients have never been more important,” Kevin Vermeer, president and CEO of UnityPoint Health, said in a statement. “This recognition validates our efforts around providing [the] best outcome every patient every time with respect to best practices and financial matters across any care setting.”
