Here are five things to know about UHS’ most recent financial results.
1. The for-profit hospital operator said revenue increased 6.9 percent year over year to $2.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2016.
2. The financial boost was attributable, in part, to an increase in patient volume. When adjusted for outpatient activity, UHS said admissions were up 4.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016, as compared to the same period of 2015.
3. Adjusted admissions were up 2.1 percent year over year at UHS’ behavioral health facilities.
4. UHS’ acute care facilities provided more charity care and uninsured discounts in the fourth quarter of 2016 than in the same period of 2015, amounting to approximately $399 million and $332 million, respectively.
5. Looking at full-year 2016 results, UHS reported net income of $702.4 million on revenues of $9.8 billion. In 2015, UHS recorded net income of $680.5 million on revenues of $9.04 billion.
