The median in-network cost of a vaginal delivery is $15,728 in the U.S., up 3.6% from $15,178 last year, according to Fair Health’s Cost of Giving Birth tracker.
Meanwhile, the median in-network cost of a cesarean section was $19,911, up 3.2% from $19,292 the year prior.
Fair Health, a healthcare data company, analyzed commercial claims data from the September 2025 release of its FH Total Treatment Cost benchmarks. The totals cover inpatient and outpatient facility and professional costs. That includes the delivery itself (labor and delivery room, room and board, pharmacy, nursery, and medical and surgical supplies), plus anesthesia, fetal nonstress tests, ultrasounds, lab work and a breast pump.
Alaska had the highest median in-network costs for both vaginal deliveries ($30,585) and C-sections ($42,044). Alabama had the lowest for both at $10,275 and $11,281, respectively.
