Haskell (Texas) Memorial Hospital has temporarily closed due to flooding, according to a July 16 Facebook post from the hospital.
The 25-bed critical access facility is in the western part of Texas, and nearly three-and-a-half hours from Dallas.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott confirmed July 16 that at least one person has died due to flash flooding across the state, ABC News reported. So far, the state has deployed more than 1,300 responders, more than 46 boats and more than 19 aircraft. Over 80 rescues have also been made, according to a July 16 X post from Mr. Abbott’s press office.
Haskell Memorial’s temporary closure includes the hospital, its clinics and emergency department.
“The safety of our patients, staff, and community remains our top priority,” the post said. “We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
Hospital leaders shared in a separate July 16 Facebook video that volunteer firefighters and other local departments were working to pump water out of the facility’s flooded basement.
Leaders on July 16 said the hospital plans to reopen “if not today, hopefully tomorrow.”
