The results of a Joint Commission report from last fall prompted Nashville General Hospital CEO Joseph Webb, DSc, to make the monetary request. The report noted “serious deficiencies” in a number of areas, including patient safety, infection control and staffing, according to the report.
“Regulatory compliance under the Joint Commission is an absolute necessity,” Dr. Webb told The Tennessean.
Of the emergency funds, $2.4 million will go toward addressing deficiencies identified by the Joint Commission.
The hospital also faces financial challenges, and the additional funds will help it handle a projected $1.4 million budget shortfall. The remaining funds will be used for new strategic initiatives and accelerated accounts payments, according to the report.
