Sutter Health boosts operating margin to 2.6% in 2025

Sacramento-based Sutter Health recorded an operating income of $509 million (2.6% operating margin) in 2025, up from $142 million (0.8% margin) in 2024. 

Sutter reported total operating revenue of $19.8 billion for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, up from $18.2 billion in 2024. Patient service revenue was $17.1 billion, up from $15.8 billion. Premium revenue was $2.2 billion, up from $2 billion. 

Total operating expenses were $19.3 billion in 2025, up from $18.1 billion in 2024. Salaries and employee benefits were $8.8 billion, up from $8.1 billion. Purchased services were $5.6 billion, up from $5.1 billion. Supply expenses were $2.7 billion, up from $2.3 billion. 

Sutter reported a net income of $1.9 billion in 2025, up from $1 billion in 2024.
