The county health system, which is expected to end this fiscal year with a $96 million budget shortfall, requested a $327 million county subsidy as part of its spending plan. The requested amount was up from last year’s county subsidy of $273.9 million.
However, Ms. Preckwinkle’s newly approved budget gives the county system just a $252 million subsidy. Cook County Health CEO Ramanathan Raju had already planned a series of cost-savings measures in case the budget was approved by commissioners. Those measures include higher parking rates and layoffs.
