Six Massachusetts hospitals with high proportions of government funding are suing the state, saying they were not paid the full Medicaid funding they were owed, according to a report by WBZ Radio.

The hospitals, which previously announced they were considering a lawsuit, are Berkshire Medical Center, Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, Cape Cod Hospital, Holyoke Medical Center, Merrimack Valley Hospital and Quincy Medical Center.

The six say they lost a total of $100 million over the past three years in Medicaid payments that were below cost, forcing them to lay off hundreds of workers and make other cuts.

A spokesman for the state said that payments to the hospitals were recently increased by 10 percent and the state is complying with the law.
