Here are five things to know about the plans.

1. Iris Wesley, executive director of the SIU Center for Family Medicine, told the State Journal-Register the satellite locations, which still require federal approval, would be able to charge sliding-scale fees to the uninsured.

2. In Quincy, the Adams County Health Department has given approval for SIU to take over its dental clinic.

3. The Quincy clinic currently has one dentist and a dental hygienist serving 8,000 patients. Now, SIU wants to increase that to three dentists and three hygienists, Ms. Wesley said, according to the report. A new location could open as soon as Sept. 1.

4. In Jacksonville, SIU wants to open a primary care clinic in the Morgan County Health Department. According to the report, the clinic would be open three half-days per week at first and would be staffed by a nurse practitioner and physician from Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville. Ms. Wesley told the State Journal-Register the clinic could open in the fall if SIU receives the expected federal approval.

5. In Lincoln, the Logan County Department of Public Health has approved SIU taking over its popular dental clinic, potentially by the end of 2016, according to the report.
