The tax, an estimated $29 billion tool to fund the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that included it, has been opposed by Republicans since it took effect in January.
Although the vote was non-binding, the Democratic show of support for the repeal demonstrates the tax may be killed if a binding budget bill hits the floor in the future.
