On Feb. 14, Gov. Snyder sent CMS a request for a Medicaid waiver that would give benefits to 15,000 additional Flint citizens affected by the water crisis. Individuals covered by the waiver would include pregnant women and those up to 21 years old.
Secretary Burwell believes the request will be granted. “We are focused on supporting the people of Flint by helping to ensure they have access to clean water and the health services they need to mitigate the effects of lead exposure,” Secretary Burwell said, according to the report.
Gov. Snyder previously sent a request to the USDA asking that the Women Infants Children program be expanded to cover older kids in Flint, but it was denied.
