RCM tip of the day: Using claim denials to update registration system alerts

By updating your registration system alerts, you can ensure better registrations for your patients, holding fewer claims for rework and realize your revenue faster.

The additional system functionality brings new opportunities to improve revenue cycle management. To prevent denials, try using the claim denials from the payers to help with the registration alerts in your systems. This allows you to capture the correct information at the correct time — prior to releasing the claim — to prevent the denial.  
For example, if a payer requires a group number and the claim is held in a claim edit by the system, a system edit could be written to alert the registration clerk to capture the group number so the claim never holds. This simple fix can save your staff time and return more revenue to your bottom-line.
