Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System generated earnings of $399.2 million in 2011, up from $201.4 million in 2010. The hospital system reduced its total staffed beds by 53 over the course of the year, which led to an increase of earnings per bed of nearly 116 percent in 2011 when factoring in higher revenues.
