Poll: 80% of Business Owners Oppose Medicare Sequestration Cuts

About 80 percent of small business owners — even Republicans — oppose cuts to entitlements such as Medicare and Social Security for fear such measures would hurt sales, according to results from a survey conducted by lobbying group Small Business Majority.

Of the 500 businesses surveyed nationwide, most believed the cuts would hurt consumer confidence and shrink consumers’ discretionary income. Fifty-two percent of owners identified as Republican, the party that historically has been the loudest supporter of entitlement reform.
