Penn State Health now offers website estimates of medical procedures

Hershey, Pa.-based Penn State Health has launched a pricing tool on its hospitals' websites.

The tool allows users to choose a medical procedure, submit insurance information and receive an estimate of out-of-pocket costs.

"We want to provide as much information as possible regarding what people can expect to pay for a particular procedure," Alan Brechbill, executive vice president and COO of Penn State Health, said in a news release. "We encourage them to use data about cost and quality to make important decisions regarding where to receive care."

The tool features a list of common medical procedures and is regularly updated. The estimates do not include out-of-pocket fees for professional services.

More information about the tool is available here and here.
