PeaceHealth is reducing its workforce by 2.5% through a combination of select caregiver role eliminations, the closure of some open positions and other organizational adjustments, according to a statement from the Vancouver, Wash.-based health system shared with Becker’s.

Affected caregivers were notified Oct. 28. PeaceHealth leaders said a majority of affected positions are nonclinical and administrative shared services roles, which support the health system’s 16,000 caregivers across Washington, Alaska and Oregon.

According to a WARN notice filed with Washington state, PeaceHealth plans to eliminate 241 positions across facilities in the state beginning Dec. 27 and concluding on or about Jan. 16. Affected positions include some union-represented employees.

In its statement, PeaceHealth leaders said the decision “reflects the ongoing need to transform and modernize our operations in response to the rapidly changing healthcare landscape — one that has challenged even the most resilient healthcare organizations.”

PeaseHealth said it will provide comprehensive transitional support consistent with its policies and practices to all affected workers.

The latest round of cuts follows other layoffs this year. In May, PeaceHealth cut jobs at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, Ore., and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver. That reduction included caregiver roles and eliminated some systemwide positions.

In September, PeaceHealth also laid off 18 employees from its medical group as part of a restructuring.
