CMS reportedly notified the hospital in early April CMC did not meet the agency’s requirements for participation in Medicare’s CAH program. CMS rescinded the designation because of a proximity violation: CMC was roughly 35 miles away from two major hospitals, Brookings-based Sutter Coast Health Center at Brookings-Harbor and Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City, Calif.
Virginia A. Razo, PharmD, CEO of Gold Beach, Ore.-based Curry Health Network — the parent company of Curry Medical Center — told the publication she requested a review of the ruling and submitted supplementary information indicating the hospital should retain its CAH designation, according to the report.
Dr. Razo said she was notified May 7 the medical center did meet CMS’ requirements for the CAH designation, and that the hospital was “grandfathered in” because its CAH status was granted before the proximity restrictions were implemented, the report states.
