In the report, the department examined how Ohio’s 2014 Medicaid expansion affected recipients. Researchers collected data through a telephone survey of 7,508 recipients, as well as biometric screenings, review of medical records and focus groups including some of the telephone survey recipients. The department also analyzed Medicaid administrative data.

Here are three findings from the report.

1. In 2008, Ohio’s uninsured rate was 36.1 percent. That rate dropped to 14.1 percent in 2015.

2. Most enrollees were white (71.5 percent), male (55.8 percent), with a high school degree or less (58.1 percent), unmarried (83.8 percent) and without a child in the home (82.1 percent).

3. A majority of enrollees reported enhanced access to care since enrolling in Medicaid — 64.3 percent stated accessing care had become easier, 6 percent said it had become harder and 29.2 percent reported ease of access remained the same.
