Ochsner's net income up $49M over 3 quarters

New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System's total revenue and net income increased year over year in the first three quarters of 2019.

Ochsner recorded revenues of $2.8 billion in the first nine months of 2019, up from $2.5 billion in the same period of the year prior, according to financial documents. The health system said the boost was attributable to several factors, including an increase in patients referred from affiliates and outlying facilities.

Ochsner's patient service revenue climbed 6.1 percent year over year, driven by a 13.8 percent increase in outpatient revenue.

After factoring in expenses, which grew 13 percent year over year, Ochsner ended the first three quarters of 2019 with operating income of nearly $72 million, compared to $70.4 million in the same period a year earlier.

A $47 million year-over-year increase in nonoperating income pushed Ochsner's net income higher. The health system ended the first three quarters of this year with net income of $137.2 million, up from $88.4 million in the same period of 2018.
