The funding is authorized by FEMA’s Alternative Procedures, which provides a lump sum payment instead of the typical incremental funding by FEMA.
Of the total funding, $540 million will go toward permanent repairs and restoration for damaged NYU Langone buildings, and $589 million will go toward the 406 Hazard mitigation to protect against future storms.
“This is a large amount of money, but the damage was enormous. When I witnessed this first-hand a few days after Sandy, I was shocked. I am pleased to see this desperately needed reimbursement to repair and rebuild in a resilient way,” Sen. Schumer said.
This is the second-largest Project Worksheet in FEMA’s history.
